Our task was to analyse the existing systems (online and in travel context) as well as imaging new possibilities for public transportation information systems for the future.

Our design process involved a selection of technical constraints, since the project was a study for future devices. Our knows the current location, and displays information on a big colour touch screen display. For developing our design solutions, we created use cases, describing scenarios for the usage of our information system when traveling the VRR regions. We also made extensive use of rapid design and testing via Paper Prototypes.

The system provides an easy solution for planning your journey, and guides you while being on it. A map shows where you are and provides additional information about the region, as well the possibility to search for locations or targets. Location-based services provide additional value - the next super market or restaurant is easy to find. On journey, the map provides also navigational information on a very detailed level, like finding your way in a very complex building. Your journey details are accessible any time, and real time data from the transportation company enables to react quickly to delays by changing the planned journey on the fly. The system also includes a ticketing system and, allows to save locations, in order to execute quick journey requests like "bring me home now, starting from my current location".
